This week from May 15th to the 21st is National Dog Bite Prevention Week. And, now that the warmer weather is here, many dogs are out and about in our neighborhoods and communities. Here in Lee’s Summit, we have two dog parks as well.
However, every day, throughout the United States, there are around 1,000 people who need emergency medical care to treat injuries from a dog bite or dog attack. Many of those bitten are children and the injuries suffered are likely to be severe, causing visible scars to areas such as the neck and face.
4.5 million dog bites occur each year. Share on XWith an estimated 70 million dogs living in households across the United States, we want to help educate people, especially children, on the best ways to prevent a dog bite from occurring.
